From 120/5 in 25 overs to 312/9 in 49.1 over Fakhar Zaman carried the team a long way. Fakhar tried so hard but no one stood on the other end. Pakistan might have ended up losing the match even if it was not Fakhar Zaman`s Controversial run-out.
Zaman’s score at the time was 193, and a Twitter debate started on the ‘spirit of cricket’ topic pointing that Quinton De Kock`s action was against the rules of cricket. Some say it was unethical and against the rules of cricket. Others say it was smart.
Fakhar Zaman`s Controversial run-out – What are the Rules of Cricket on this?
The ICC rule book also states that such actions count under ‘fake fielding’ that basically discourages fielders from distracting batsmen.
Clause 41.5 of ICC Men’s ODI Playing Conditions deals with “Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batsman.”
Clause 41.5.1 states that “it is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball.” Further, clause 41.5.2 says that “it is for either one of the umpires to decide whether any distraction, deception or obstruction is wilful or not.”
